GALLANTLY FOUGHT THE QUEEN
The play ‘Gallantly Fought the Queen’ has been inspired by ‘The Queen Of Jhansi’ by Mahasweta Devi and ‘The Ranee Of Jhansi ‘By D.V. Tahamankar. The poetry used in the play- Jhansi Ki Rani, on Rani Lakshmi Bai, is by the famous poet Subhadra Kumari Chauhan and from the Lakshmi Bai Raso.
This play is a result of creative and patriotic enthusiasm and not a lesson in history; albeit, historical facts and significances have been maintained to the best of our knowledge.
Rani Lakshmi Bai lost her husband, then her kingdom, and finally her son’s inheritance. The soldier’s revolt pushed her into the whirlpool of history as it was being made, and she became the rallying point for every person seeking liberation. She was pitted against a very formidable adversary Sir Hugh Rose, and finally died in the Battle of Kotah-Ki-Sarai. This is her story.
